I recently had the opportunity to dive into Michael Bigger’s e-book How Traders Achieve Creative Flow.
In explaining the purpose of the book, Michael states, “How Traders Achieve Creative Flow is about painting your own canvas and formulating your own recipes. I hope that after reading this book, you embrace financial artistry. You will become a true craftsman. You will interpret information in better ways; you will create, invent, and make money along the way.”
Throughout the book he explores the five habits of creative traders. I found the second habit of experiencing solitude to be especially enlightening. The excitement of watching charts, twitter, facebook, CNBC, e-mail, and the multitude of other information sources vying for your attention can lead to a state of sensory overload which hurts your trading performance. Though many traders venture into their twitter feed to attain some clarity on the market, the cacophony of voices often sows confusion instead. While I admit I sometimes find the allure of my TweetDeck to be irresistible, many of my best trading epiphanies have come from the quiet solitude.
“Creative traders step away from their screens an hour or two a day. They free their minds of all the distraction of modern life on a regular basis. In solitude, they think. A calm mind will roam, explore hunches, meander, experiment with thoughts, and connect with its soul.”
Nicely said.
Those seeking to extract more value out of twitter, StockTwits, and blogging will find some cool ideas within the book. Bigger also shows how to cultivate your own trading recipes as well as how to develop an environment that’s conducive to idea generation.
Those of you averse to reading lengthy books will be happy to know How Traders Achieve Creative Flow is short enough to be tackled all in one sitting.
Thanks to Michael for letting me preview the book and more importantly thanks for composing a compelling read. How Traders Achieve Creative Flow can be found on Amazon.com.

Here is one of my favorite narratives. It is truly one of my founding motivations for trading:

I create my own creative flow by taking measures to eliminate 99% of \everything else\ out there. In order to do so, isolationism must be a factor. Only then will you ever truly begin to grasp the foundation of creative flow.
