The StockTwits Edge

The StockTwits Edge is to professional traders as Abnormal Returns is to financial bloggers.  It’s a one stop shop for thought provoking content.

At 341 pages, the book is one of the larger trading publications I’ve read in recent years.  Its size can be attributed to the fact that it has over forty contributors chiming in with their personal insights of the trading world.  Traders of all stripes will find some, if not all, sections to their liking as it speaks to everything from value investing and trend following to options and Forex trading.

While each trader has their own unique approach, several themes continue to resurface throughout the book.  The necessity of a trading plan, stop losses, and risk management were all in the forefront. Not surprisingly, technical analysis was the weapon of choice for most shorter term traders.  Most share their favorite trade setups with detailed explanations of how to identify and exploit them.  Yet another key takeaway is the amount of diversity among all the contributors.  Trading profitably didn’t come down to the strategy selected, but rather the way in which risk was managed.

All told, I consider The StockTwits Edge a worthwhile addition to my library.  You’ll likely discover a few additional strategies or tricks of the trade worth adding to your arsenal.  At the least you’ll come away with a better understanding of the mindset of active traders.
